The tenth edition of The Bobs — Best of Online Activism was decided in spring 2014, with an international jury and public voting across 14 languages. It was dominated by the Ukrainian Maidan revolution and by projects widening access to information.
Jury awards 2014
- Best Blog: Mosa’ab Elshamy — the Egyptian photoblogger known for his coverage of the Egyptian revolution
- Reporters Without Borders Award (Jury and People’s Choice): YanukovychLeaks — journalists rescued and published about 200 folders of documents divers pulled from the lake at ex president Yanukovych’s residence
- Best Innovation (Jury and People’s Choice): BanglaBraille — crowdsourced braille and audio textbooks for visually impaired children in Bangladesh
- Global Media Forum Award: Khabar Lahariya — the Indian rural weekly written entirely by women journalists in six local languages
People’s Choice 2014
- Best Blog: Euromaydan — Ukraine’s biggest Facebook community with around 300,000 subscribers, the main information hub of the Maidan revolution
- Turkish: Yüksekova Haber, the independent Kurdish region news site, won its second straight year
- Russian: Stopfake.org, fact checking pro Kremlin disinformation
- Indonesian: Change.org Indonesia and its #SaveKPK anti corruption petitions
