For its eleventh edition The Bobs restructured its jury prizes into three themes — Social Change, Privacy & Security, and Arts & Media — alongside People’s Choice awards in 14 languages. 2015 was also the year the Reporters Without Borders special award was succeeded by the new DW Freedom of Speech Award.
Jury awards 2015
- Social Change: Mukto Mona — the Bangladeshi secularist group blog co founded by Avijit Roy, who was killed in Dhaka in February 2015; his widow Rafida Bonya Ahmed continued the blog
- Privacy & Security: Rancho Electrónico — the Mexican hackerspace localizing open web and security conversations
- Arts & Media: Zaytoun, the little refugee — a video game that follows a refugee boy’s journey
DW Freedom of Speech Award
The first DW Freedom of Speech Award went to Raif Badawi, the Saudi blogger behind Free Saudi Liberals, sentenced to 1,000 lashes and ten years in prison. The award was presented on 23 June 2015 at the DW Global Media Forum in Bonn and accepted by his wife.
