The twelfth edition of The Bobs — Best of Online Activism turned out to be the last. Jury prizes were given in four themes — Social Change, Tech for Good, Arts and Culture, and Citizen Journalism — plus User Awards in 14 languages.
Jury awards 2016
- Social Change: Stop Acid Attacks — the Indian campaign against acid violence, which runs the Sheroes’ Hangout café in Agra staffed by survivors
- Tech for Good: Gershad — the Iranian crowdsourced app that maps morality police checkpoints so users can avoid them
- Arts and Culture: Zentrum für politische Schönheit — the German Center for Political Beauty, provocative art activism on refugee deaths and closed borders
- Citizen Journalism: Razor’s Edge — a documentary by a targeted Bangladeshi blogger about the murders of secular bloggers in Bangladesh
DW Freedom of Speech Award
The 2016 award went to Sedat Ergin, editor in chief of Turkey’s Hürriyet newspaper.
